I’m with Dick Harris
February 16, 2010

Williams Lake Tribune - Enough already with John Dressler et al’s partisan axe grinding about our MP Dick Harris. The fact is that all of our elected MPs and MLAs work very hard for our riding, regardless of their political stripe.

Has Mr. Dressler ever looked at a map of Canada? Can he imagine the personal sacrifice involved in traversing this country, through three time zones over and over again?

Even the trip down to Victoria time after time is not a piece of pie.

The riding itself is the size of a European country and cannot be covered on one day.

As for the prorogation of Parliament – prorogation is a routine and procedural measure used by both provincial and federal governments. Since the inception of the country it has been used almost once every year.

The House was closed for 32 days for the Christmas break and all parties voted for the House closing for the 11 days of the Olympics.

Therefore, the prorogation has lasted for 17 days.

As for Maude Barlow, considering that in her Jan 4, 2010 piece in the Globe and Mail she said, “I am personally ashamed of my country as I travel internationally,” – I am with Dick Harris on this one when he told her to go jump in the lake.

Maggie Menzies.
