Cariboo-Prince George MP Dick Harris says he is “delighted” about a federal government investment to create job opportunities for youth.
“This investment not only means more job opportunities for our youth, but will strengthen our local economies,” says Harris, who is also chair of the B.C./Yukon Cauces.
Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. It is designed to focus on local priorities while achieving tangible results for both students and their communities.
Diane Finley, minister of human resources and skills development, made the investment announcement Wednesday.
The federal government has permanently increased the budget for Canada Summer Jobs by $10 million.
“This will be allocated across 308 federal constituencies and using the most recent labour market data available on summer students to ensure the new funding is provided to areas where it is needed most,” Harris says.
“Once again, this shows that jobs and the economy remain this government’s top priority as it continues to implement its job-creating, low-tax plan.”
